Hiking trails
that you may explore from
hotel Tronador
There are many
and varied trails and excursions starting right from the Hotel
Tronador.
Short hiking trails - low difficulty:
De
los Césares waterfall:
Cascada de los Césares: approx. 40 mins. hike from
the hotel there is a waterfall within a deep gorge which is
made up of three separate falls adding up to a total of some
70 metres. An interesting aspect of the falls is the two perfectly
circular water holes which have been formed.
Roca de los Buitres:
Rock Buttres, natural viewpoint on the sides of Mount Diego
Flores de León. Hiking there takes approx. an hour and a half,
the first part is along a gently rising path, the latter part
is steep and rugged.
Los Pozones del arroyo Claro:
(Claro stream Water Holes), these are found along a section
of the Claro stream, made up of a serie of rapids and pools.
The waters are crystal clear and the setting within a southern
beech forest with Colihue cane (autochthonous bamboo like
trees) undergrowth is beautiful. You can reach there in two
ways; either walking via the Hanging Bridge (approx. one and
a half hour) or by crossing the lake by boat first and then
walking the last part (a walk of approx. half an hour) .
Mirador
del Castillo Rojo:
(Red Castle viewpoint) this is a unique rock formation with
an easily distinguishable red hue, due to the very high iron
content in the rock. From this point there is a spectacular
view of the Western branch of Mascardi lake and the Vuriloche
Valley. From a distance this rock looks like a castle, as
the name suggests..
Puente Colgante - Mirador del Cipresal:
This is an easy walk following the edge of the River Manso
Superior, until you reach a point within the cypress forest
from where there is a lovely view of the marshes and the Tres
Lagunas area.
Mirador
de los Vuriloches:
This is an easy hike following the edge of the River Manso
Superior, until you reach a point within the cypress forest
from where there is a lovely view of the marshes and the Tres
Lagunas area..
Península de La Volteada:
An easy walk through virgin Southern beech forest. Part of
this path follows an old track used by the Vuriloche Indians..
Longer hiking trails - more difficult (trekking)
I-
Excursions starting at Hotel Tronador, either self-guided
or leaded by our guides: (full day trips)
Cerro Diego Flores de León:
This route climbs some 800 meters. No technical difficulty
will be encountered but physical condition should be good.
There are two options: climbing up to the summit, which
is recommended as a full-day excursion,
or trekking to the lookout point on the way to the top from
where scenic views are superb..
Laguna
Callvú (=Azul) Duration: full day.
Located between Cerro Bonete and Cerro Punta Negra mountain
tops, this 100-meter deep circular-shape lagoon resembles
the mouth of a volcano. Extremely deep for its size, it is
precisely the depth what gives its crystal clear waters an
intense blue color. The trip combines a 2-hour horseback ride
plus 1 ½ hour of rock climbing, including a picnic on the
shore of the lagoon. Being physically fit is a requirement
and only children over 10 years with good horseriding ability
are allowed on the trip.
Mirador
del Corazón (Heart shaped island viewpoint: Duration:
half day.
A boat trip to Puerto Leon --a beautiful bay on the lake's
northern shore-- near Piuque Huapi island --meaning "heart"
in Mapuche-- is necessary to get to this lookout. The trail
starts at the port and climbs through cohiue and cypress forests
all the way to the ridge where an immense rock serves as observation
point over the island and the western arm of Lago Mascardi.
II- II- Excursions from Pampa Linda, either self-guided
or with guides hired at Hostería Pampa Linda:
